Because I'm not actually a gloomy person, a happy Christmas update.

I don't think I've mentioned on here what I do for a living. I used to be a research tech in a genetics lab, but I lost my job in 2015. Now I do audiobook narrating. It's a long weird story.

Anyway, this is the first year I've done nothing but audiobooks professionally, and I got a fantastic Christmas present. TheLesbianReview.net put out a list of Top 100 Lesbian Vacation Novels (technically put out in November but I didn't see it then, and it was retweeted on the 25th) and a novel I narrated is on there!

FALLING INTO HER by Erin Zak is one of my favorite books that I've done, and is notable for being one that I got so into performing that I was full-on breaking down during a pivotal scene. I think my narration and editing skills have gotten better since then, but I'm still proud of this one.

Considering that I sometimes make the mistake of reading Audible reviews, this is a huge confidence boost.

Christmas Eve is bittersweet for me. Not Christmas--the night before.

A lot of long, sad navel-gazing. )

Do I have any friends here who still read Dreamwidth?

I'm more active on Twitter if you want to keep up with me, but we'll see if I do anything with this again. The Great Fandom Migration continues, as always.

For anyone curious, this year I wrote:

Me, back in June when I was all excited about finishing a thing: "I'll have the next part up in like two weeks, it'll be so good you guys, yay!"

Me, two days ago after actually finishing the follow-up to said thing: "I'm exhausted and I have no idea when I'll get back to this."

Me, in the car this morning: "...idea."

AUGH.

ETA: And that's how I started plotting this whole damn thing out and wrote the first thousand words plus a few random scenes I didn't want to forget, even though I said I wouldn't.

So, I should probably use this for something since LJ's become a casualty of the EVE Online metagame or something. I keep thinking I should get Tumblr because all the cool kids have one, but then I balk at the idea because the world of Tumblr is weird.

Anyway. I spoiled myself for Avengers Arena #1, which is out tomorrow (12/12/12). And while I wasn't looking forward to the book pretty much at all since I heard the premise months ago (Battle Royale/Hunger Games! With Marvel kid characters!) I'm even less enthused now.

DEAD KIDS OMG. )

Today marks the official kick-off of our read-through/reread/what have you of Stephen King's The Stand!

...and I have not got around to making discussion posts yet for the first chapter or section of the book because I fail at life. But seriously, it's started. Trust me.

I'll be posting the discussion posts tomorrow. Look for them!
